The Girl with the Cardinal

uly 2005 took me to the home of the Cherokees in North Carolina. This was my first experience on a Native American reservation.
I immediately realized that my romantic notions regarding Native Americans were best buried.
The regal photographic portraits of these people from the turn of the last century have kept our consciousness in the past. So my idea was born: to continue Native American portraiture with the young generation as my subjects.

The barbwire is a symbol of the cage that is the Native American reservation.
The barbs represent the stars, and the wires, the stripes.







Cherokee Indian
